So, who am I?
Hi, I'm Nicole, the person behind Wings of Sound.
My journey into sound started with my own experiences of sound baths.
I attended a few, and what drew me in was how different each experience could be. One could leave me feeling incredibly calm, another I could feel physically through my body, and another might affect me more emotionally. Then there were the ones where my mind simply wouldn't quieten and I found myself thinking about everything except the sound bath!
But I kept coming back.
There was something about sound that really connected with me. For me personally, it became part of my own healing. It gave me moments of peace and stillness and sometimes simply a chance to stop, breathe and have a little time for myself.
The more I experienced, the more curious I became. I wanted to understand the sounds, the instruments and why each experience could feel so different. Eventually, I decided to train as a Sound Practitioner and turn something I had grown to love into something I could share with others.
And that's how Wings of Sound began.
At the heart of it is something that's very important to me.
I think we all need moments where it's okay to stop.
Life is busy. We work, care for other people, worry, organise, plan and rush from one thing to the next. We can be very good at making time for everyone and everything else, while our own mental health and wellbeing slowly move further down the list.
I see it with children too.
I'm also a Montessori teacher and nursery owner, and working with children has shown me that their little worlds are busy as well. They're constantly learning, playing, moving, socialising and taking in everything around them, alongside activities, everyday routines and increasingly more screen time.
They need those little moments of calm too.
For children, slowing down and learning to be still can take time, and that's perfectly okay. I don't expect a child to suddenly know how to switch off because we've asked them to. It comes gently, with patience, encouragement and consistency. We give them the opportunity to experience calm without putting pressure on them to experience it in a particular way.
Perhaps, as adults, we're not so different.
When I created Wings of Sound, I knew I wanted to find my own way of sharing the experience.
Sometimes a session may begin with me gently guiding you through a meditation or visualisation. Sometimes I may introduce Pranayama and breathing techniques. I also use my own voice through humming and sounds, allowing my voice to become part of the experience alongside the instruments.
And then there are times when my voice becomes quiet and I simply let the sounds and music take over.
I don't want every session to be the same. That's part of what drew me to sound baths in the first place. Every experience I had was different, and I want to keep that feeling within Wings of Sound.
And then there's the water.
Music and water are two of my favourite things, so when I discovered floating sound baths during my training, something about bringing the two together just felt right.
Floating sound baths were something I really wanted to explore as part of Wings of Sound. I loved the idea of combining two things that already mean so much to me, and I'm really pleased that I can now share that experience with others here in Gibraltar.
As for what I hope you get from a Wings of Sound session?
Whatever you need from it that day.
That's genuinely how I feel.
You might find calm. You might completely switch off. You might connect with a particular sound or feel it physically. Your mind might wander. You may simply enjoy having some time where nobody needs anything from you.
And if you don't completely connect with it the first time, that's okay too. I've been there myself. I've had sound baths where my mind was everywhere and others where I could completely let go.
Every time can be different.
So come with curiosity rather than worrying about what you're supposed to feel.
You don't need to know how to meditate. You don't need to understand sound baths. You don't have to be particularly spiritual and you don't have to do anything perfectly.
Just come as you are.
I'll create the space, welcome you into it, gently guide you when needed and let you discover the rest for yourself.
Your experience is yours.
